Eleme Healthcare Centre Reopens After Customs Rehabilitation

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commissioned the rehabilitated Ebubu Primary Healthcare Centre in Eleme, Rivers State, under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Customs Cares.

Speaking at the event on 15 September 2026, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi said the project reflects NCS’s commitment to community wellbeing beyond its statutory duties of revenue collection, trade facilitation, and border security.

Launched in March 2025, Customs Cares has supported schools, scholarships, medical outreaches, food distribution, agricultural initiatives, skills acquisition, solar lighting, boreholes, and other infrastructure. Adeniyi noted that healthcare is “fundamental to human dignity, productivity and community development,” stressing that sustainability of the centre depends on adequate staffing, maintenance, and community support.

He thanked traditional rulers, community leaders, the Rivers State Government, Eleme Local Government Council, and healthcare professionals for their contributions.

Comptroller Aliyu Alkali of Port Harcourt II Area Command added that Customs’ impact should be measured not only in revenue but in the difference it makes to communities. Comptroller Patience Ibrahim, head of the CSR Unit, said the initiative reflects NCS’s belief in making a meaningful difference nationwide.

Dignitaries at the commissioning urged residents to take ownership of the facility to ensure its continued usefulness.
