DataPro Webinar: Experts to Map Africa’s Path to Investment-Grade Credit
DataPro Webinar: Experts to Map Africa’s Path to Investment-Grade Credit
Africa’s struggle to secure cheaper and more sustainable access to international capital will take centre stage on October 8 as financial experts, policymakers, and economists converge at the sixth International Rating Webinar organised by DataPro
The virtual event, themed “Sovereign Credit Rating: Africa’s Roadmap to Investment Grade Status,” is expected to examine how African economies can strengthen their credit profiles, attract long-term investment and improve access to global capital markets.
With sovereign credit ratings increasingly influencing investors’ perception of country risk, borrowing costs, and capital flows, the webinar will focus on the policy, institutional, and macroeconomic conditions required to move African economies towards investment-grade status.
DataPro, in a statement announcing the countdown to the event, said the gathering would provide participants with deeper insight into sovereign credibility, institutional governance and macroeconomic policy as key determinants of a country’s standing in the global financial market.
The organisers said the 2026 edition would feature an expanded panel comprising financial leaders, macroeconomists, and policy experts from major African institutions and leading global academic establishments.
Experts from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) are expected to bring policy and institutional perspectives to the discussions, alongside scholars from international universities and research institutions.
The discussions are also expected to address the factors that shape sovereign creditworthiness, including fiscal discipline, economic growth, institutional strength, policy consistency, and the ability of governments to meet their financial obligations.
For investors and financial market participants, sovereign credit ratings remain an important indicator in assessing the risks associated with investing in government securities and other assets linked to a country’s economy.
A stronger sovereign credit profile can also influence the cost and availability of external financing, while weak ratings may raise risk premiums and constrain access to international capital.
Against this backdrop, DataPro said the webinar would provide “actionable intelligence” on Africa’s economic trajectory and the challenges facing countries seeking to improve their standing in international financial markets.
The event is expected to attract participants from the financial services industry, government, investment community, academia, media, and other sectors with an interest in sovereign risk and economic policy.
DataPro said participants would have the opportunity to gain insights into the evolving dynamics of sovereign ratings and the implications for Africa’s investment prospects.
The sixth International Rating Webinar is scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm WAT, and will be held online.
The organisers urged prospective participants to register ahead of the event, noting that available slots are limited.
