Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election, Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the 2026 governorship election, securing a second term in office.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Adeleke as the winner after collating the results from the state’s 30 local government areas at its headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital, in the early hours of Sunday.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,811 votes.

The margin of victory stood at 66,256 votes.

The governor won in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke recorded commanding victories in several of his traditional strongholds. In Ede North, he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Ede South, he secured 26,188 votes against 6,219 votes recorded by the APC candidate.

In Osogbo, Adeleke won with 36,480 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 30,474.

Other notable victories for the incumbent were recorded in Ife East, where he scored 27,201 votes against Oyebamiji’s 18,600; Iwo, 27,085 against 19,660; Egbedore, 19,278 against 11,194; and Oriade, 21,343 against 14,863.

Oyebamiji, however, won several local government areas, including Irewole, where he secured 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.

The APC candidate also prevailed in Boripe, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ife South, Ilesa East, Irepodun, Isokan, Obokun, Ola-Oluwa and another local government area.

The result gives Adeleke another four-year term as governor of Osun State.
