FAAN Says No Fire at Lagos Airport Terminal 2, Blames Smoke on Fire Suppression System
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, following an earlier incident that caused concern among passengers and airport users.
In an update issued on Saturday signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN said preliminary findings showed that the smoke seen within the terminal was caused by the discharge of the facility’s FM-200 fire suppression system and not by a fire incident.
According to the authority, the circumstances that triggered the activation of the fire suppression system are still under investigation.
FAAN further disclosed that normal flight and passenger operations have resumed at Terminal 2 while experts continue detailed investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The authority thanked passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the incident.
FAAN also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security across all airport operations.
