Apapa Customs Intercepts ₦26.5 Billion Worth of Cannabis Indica Concealed in Imported Vehicles
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has intercepted Cannabis Indica valued at ₦26.57 billion and weighing 4,143.5 kilograms during a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Acting on credible intelligence, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller (CAC), ordered a thorough examination of a 40ft container (No. FANU1933352) on Friday, July 10, 2026.
After examination, the container was found to contain three used vehicles: Red Nissan Micra (2015 model), Black Toyota Corolla S (2019 model), and Gray Toyota Corolla (2015 model).
A detailed search uncovered 162 bags containing 8,287 parcels of Cannabis Indica, each weighing 500 grams. Four bags were concealed inside the Nissan Micra, while the remaining 158 bags were hidden on the container floor of the vehicles. No illicit substances were found in the two Toyota Corollas.
Comptroller Oshoba emphasized that the seizure reflects the Command’s vigilance and commitment to combating illicit trade:
“This seizure once again demonstrates our untiring commitment to ensuring that only lawful trade thrives in Apapa Port. As we intensify investigation into the matter, I want to reiterate that this command has made the port a no-go area for anything forbidden by our laws.”
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to facilitate legitimate trade while strictly enforcing prohibitions under the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
