Oyebanji Secures Second Term as Ekiti Governor, Wins Across All 16 Local Governments
The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC)), has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC)), Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the Ekiti State governorship election following the collation of results from all the 16 local government areas.
The announcement was made in the early hours of Sunday at the State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti by the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who stated that Oyebanji met all constitutional requirements and was duly returned elected.
According to the final results released by INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Olumayokun Oluyede, of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)), who scored 40,533 votes.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, (ADC)), Dare Bejide, finished with 12,872 votes.
Out of 988,251 registered voters, 384,940 were accredited, while 382,109 votes were cast. A total of 375,777 votes were declared valid.
Oyebanji recorded a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas of the state, including Efon Local Government Area, which is the home council of his main opponent.
In Efon LGA, he secured 8,742 votes against Oluyede’s 2,051, while the ADC candidate polled 201 votes. He also delivered strong performances in key areas such as Ado Local Government Area with 38,026 votes and Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA with 29,278 votes.
The outcome reinforces the APC’s dominance in Ekiti State and secures a second term for Oyebanji, allowing him to continue his administration’s policies for another four years.
