Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke After Victory Over Oyebamiji

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State following his victory in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

Accord Party chieftain Pelumi Olajengbesi disclosed this at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo, shortly after Adeleke was declared winner.

Olajengbesi commended Tinubu for refraining from interference in the electoral process, describing it as proof of the President’s commitment to his pledge of a free, fair, and credible election. He, however, noted that while the poll was credible, it could not be considered entirely free and fair, citing alleged oppression and arrests of opposition supporters.

“We want to believe that this election is very credible, but we do not agree that it was free and fair because it was oppressive. Our people are still in detention. Even during the election, over 11 persons were arrested,” he said.

Despite these concerns, Olajengbesi praised Tinubu for ensuring that the process was respected and the outcome upheld. He revealed that Tinubu had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him even before the final results were announced, when the governor was already leading by a wide margin.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
