CGC Adeniyi Consoles Gumel Emirate Over Passing of Emir

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has extended his condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State, as well as the royal family of the Gumel Emirate, following the passing of His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, the late Emir of Gumel.

In a statement issued on Friday, 5 September 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, CGC Adeniyi was represented at the funeral prayer held at the Gumel Emirate Palace by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu.

Delivering the Comptroller-General’s message, DC Adamu described the death of the Emir as a profound loss to his people and the nation. He noted that the late monarch would be remembered for his decades of selfless service, his unwavering commitment to peace and unity, and his dedication to the welfare and development of the Gumel Emirate.

“The death of His Royal Highness is a great loss to the Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State, and indeed Nigeria. He was a respected traditional leader who devoted many years to serving his people, while consistently supporting the Nigeria Customs Service and other agencies operating within his domain to safeguard our borders and promote legitimate trade,” Adamu stated.

He added: “On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel, and the government and people of Jigawa State. At this difficult moment, we share in their grief and pray that Almighty Allah grants the deceased eternal rest and gives his family, subjects, and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.”

The funeral prayer drew dignitaries from within and outside Jigawa State, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Governors of Jigawa and Kano States, royal fathers, senior government officials, and thousands of mourners from all walks of life.

Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II reigned for 46 years, making his tenure one of the longest in the history of the Gumel Emirate. His legacy of leadership, unity, and service will remain indelible in the hearts of his people.
