OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS FOIL TERRORIST KIDNAP ATTEMPTS, RESCUE 22 VICTIMS IN SOKOTO STATE
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued 22 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State. These swift interventions underscore the force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring security across the theatre of operations.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the first incident occurred on 18 June 2026, when terrorists blocked the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, attacking two civilian vehicles and abducting passengers. Tragically, one civilian was killed during the assault. Acting on credible intelligence, troops mobilized immediately, launching a coordinated pursuit supported by aerial surveillance. Sustained pressure forced the terrorists to abandon their captives, leading to the successful rescue of 17 passengers, who were handed over to the appropriate authorities.
In a related operation the same day, troops responded to a distress call from Chohi Village, where terrorists attempted to abduct farmers on their farmlands. Rapid deployment and aggressive pursuit along the withdrawal route resulted in the rescue of five kidnapped farmers, who were later reunited with their families.
Following the rescues, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in surrounding communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale, to reassure residents, dominate the area, and deny terrorists freedom of action.
These successful operations highlight the unwavering resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect vulnerable communities, disrupt terrorist activities, and create a secure environment where citizens can pursue their daily lives without fear.
