NIMASA to Host Webinars on Automation of Nigerian Ship Registry Tuesday, Thursday

 

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) will host a two-part stakeholder webinar on 6 and 8 October 2026 to showcase the ongoing automation of the Nigerian Ship Registry. This initiative is part of the Agency’s drive to modernize ship registration services and enhance the competitiveness of the Nigerian flag.

The webinars will provide shipowners, operators, maritime professionals, financial institutions, insurers, and other stakeholders with insights into the new digital registration platform, designed to significantly improve speed, transparency, and efficiency.

Key Features of the Automated System include 24/7 access to registration services, streamlined applications and approvals with faster issuance of electronic certificates, secure, real-time tracking of ship mortgages and registry transactions, seamless interaction for both local and international shipowners, globally competitive flag-state services aligned with international standards.

Speaking on the initiative, NIMASA Director-General/CEO, Dr Dayo Mobereola, emphasized:

“The automation of the Nigerian Ship Registry represents a significant step in our commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and globally competitive services. Our objective is to make the Nigerian flag more accessible, responsive, and attractive through technology-driven processes that meet international standards.”

The ongoing user-testing phase is focused on validating functionality, security, and user experience ahead of official deployment. The webinars will allow stakeholders to explore the platform, experience its features, and provide feedback before full implementation.
