Adeleke Applauds Tinubu for Allowing Free and Fair Osun Governorship Election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing the August 15 governorship election in the state to proceed freely, saying the President’s commitment to democracy contributed to the credibility of the exercise.

Adeleke, who secured re-election with 511,067 votes, defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The incumbent won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday after visiting President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Adeleke arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:20 p.m. and proceeded directly to the President’s office, where he held a closed-door meeting with Tinubu.

Speaking to State House correspondents afterwards, Adeleke said his visit was mainly to express appreciation to the President for respecting the democratic process and allowing the election to take its course without interference.

Describing Tinubu as the “father of the nation,” Adeleke said the President deserved commendation for supporting democracy.

“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.

“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” he said.

The governor’s remarks came days after his victory was formally declared in the Osun governorship election.
