NIMASA Commissions Museum to Preserve Maritime Heritage
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has officially commissioned the NIMASA Museum, located at the Nigerian Maritime Resource Development Centre (NMRDC), Kirikiri, Lagos. This marks a major milestone in the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s maritime heritage.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, represented by the Agency’s Director of Planning, Research and Data Management Services, Mrs. Aisha Jidda, declared the museum open to the public.
Dr. Mobereola described the facility as a repository of Nigeria’s maritime history and a centre dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s maritime legacy for future generations.
He noted that it will serve educational and research hub, showcasing historical artefacts, archival materials, and maritime innovations. It will also preserve heritage through documenting the evolution of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
The facility will promote awareness, inspiring students, researchers, and industry stakeholders. It will also highlight the strategic role of maritime development in national growth.
Dr. Mobereola encouraged students, researchers, industry stakeholders, and the general public to visit the museum to gain deeper insights into Nigeria’s maritime journey and its contribution to national development.
