Tinubu Returns to Nigeria, Heads to Lagos for Abiola Memorial, Political Meetings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending several weeks on a working vacation in Europe, arriving at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday evening.

Tinubu, who departed Abuja on August 30, arrived in Lagos at about 6:22 p.m. after concluding his engagements in Paris, France.

The President’s return was disclosed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement titled, “President Tinubu departs Paris for Nigeria.”

According to Onanuga, the President chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely regarded as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and a symbol of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

Tinubu is expected to attend, on Independence Day, the premiere of a movie commemorating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos

During his stay in Lagos, the president is also scheduled to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

Tinubu had spent about one week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he combined private engagements with meetings involving business and political figures.

In Paris, the President attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and held discussions with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.

He also met on Monday with the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.

Last week, Tinubu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.

DP World, a global ports and logistics company, is expected to invest $7 billion in the seaport and associated economic zone.

The president is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his political engagements in Lagos.
