ABU Alumni Association Appoints Kanwan Katsina as BoT Chairman
The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Katsina State Branch, has appointed Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the State Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango. Other members of the Board include Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, Chief Judge of Katsina State, Hajia Binta Ayi Ibrahim, retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana, Special Adviser, Department of Local Government Inspectorate, Engineer Bala Abdullahi Maimaje, environmental engineer and consultant, Alhaji Ibrahim Daku, retired Director of Security in the Katsina State Governor’s Office (Secretary to the Board).
The Association explained that the decision was made in line with its Constitution and reflects confidence in Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara’s integrity, wisdom, and long-standing commitment to development. As Chairman, he is expected to provide strategic guidance, institutional memory, and counsel to strengthen the growth, unity, and sustainability of the Katsina State Branch.
Congratulating the Kanwan Katsina on what it described as a well‑deserved recognition, the Association expressed optimism that his leadership and stature will inspire greater commitment to the ideals of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, graduated with a degree in Political Science from ABU Zaria in 1981. He completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bendel State, serving as Assistant Secretary at Oshimili Local Government Area, Asaba. He later joined the Nigeria Customs Service, where he served for 35 years before retiring.
Since retirement, he has continued to contribute to community and national development, particularly through his role as Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.
