NIMASA Launches “Blue-Green” Maritime Enforcement in Lagos
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has commenced a coordinated enforcement operation, codenamed “Blue-Green”, across key waterways in Lagos.
Leveraging assets from the Deep Blue Project and the C4i intelligence system, the operation combined intelligence gathering, analysis, and targeted enforcement at sea. A newly deployed intelligence capability enhanced vessel identification and prioritization, enabling real-time support for boarding and inspection teams.
NIMASA’s Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, confirmed that “Blue-Green” will become a recurring, intelligence-led enforcement model. He noted plans to expand similar operations to Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Warri, aligning with operational readiness and intelligence priorities.
“This deployment of multiple enforcement platforms is to serve as deterrent to anybody with criminal intentions. We are glad with the level of cooperation from the armed forces,” Dr. Mobereola stated.
During the operation, several vessels were boarded for document verification and compliance screening, covering statutory certification, cargo and voyage documentation, surcharge obligations, and cabotage compliance.
The initiative underscores NIMASA’s commitment to strengthening maritime compliance, deterring criminal activity, and boosting revenue generation through structured, intelligence-driven enforcement.
