Breaking News: Typhoon Dolphin Strikes Japan, Heads Toward China
Typhoon Dolphin battered Okinawa in Japan Saturday, injuring five and cutting power to 14,000 buildings. The storm, with winds up to 162 km/h, forced flight cancellations in Japan, China, and Taiwan.
China has declared a level-three emergency, closing ports, schools, and tourist sites in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, where landfall is expected late Sunday or early Monday. Heavy rainfall exceeding 600mm is forecast in parts of eastern Zhejiang.
The typhoon coincides with East Asia’s record heatwave, which has already caused multiple deaths in South Korea and the suspected heatstroke deaths of three lions in a Japanese zoo.
