Top Government Functionaries to Attend MARAN’s Landmark Maritime Lecture on Nigeria’s Port Competitiveness
The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has announced September 10, 2026 as the date for this year’s edition of its flagship MARAN Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL). The high-profile event will convene at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, and maritime stakeholders to chart a new course for Nigeria’s port competitiveness.
The theme of the lecture is
“Nigeria Ports Modernisation, Charges and the Competitiveness Question”.
This year’s lecture will provide a strategic platform for robust discussions on reforms needed to make Nigerian ports more efficient, cost-effective, and globally competitive.
Distinguished Guests
expected include Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy as Special Guest of Honour while the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy and Coordination, and Head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), Hadiza Bala Usman. The occasion will be chaired by TANTITA Security Services Limited.
Deliberations will cover Port infrastructure modernisation,
Operational efficiency and reduction of port charges, Trade facilitation and policy reforms, and Strengthening Nigeria’s role as a leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.
According to MARAN President, Mr. Oluyinka Onigbinde, MAMAL has earned a reputation as one of the maritime sector’s foremost policy dialogue platforms. This year’s edition is expected to generate actionable recommendations on
reducing the cost of doing business at Nigerian ports, enhancing investor confidence, improving operational efficiency, and accelerating Nigeria’s quest to become a preferred maritime and logistics hub.
MARAN has urged stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to participate actively, describing MAMAL 2026 as a strategic forum for shaping policies and partnerships that will drive sustainable growth, competitiveness in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
