The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has unveiled the Blue Economy Accelerator Programme, a strategic initiative designed to identify, nurture, and accelerate innovative startups that will drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
Aimed at attracting young, vibrant minds, the programme seeks innovative ideas capable of transforming the nation’s maritime ecosystem. Applications are now open to startups and innovators developing solutions across key sectors, including Marine Waste Management & Circular Economy; Aquaculture & Sustainable Fisheries; Maritime Technology & Logistics Innovation; Ocean Energy (wave, tidal, offshore renewables); Marine Tourism & Coastal Recreation; Marine Biotechnology (ocean data, analytics); Green Shipping (vessel decarbonization); Smart Port Solutions; Autonomous Marine Vehicles; Biofouling Prevention Technologies, and Coastal Resilience (nature-based coastal defence).
The first phase is expected to attract at least 150 high-quality applications from Nigerian citizens both at home and abroad.
According to NIMASA’s Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, participants will benefit from structured business development support, industry mentorship, and technical guidance to transform promising concepts into viable ventures that address critical challenges and opportunities within the blue economy.
