PTML Customs Command Issues New Cargo Clearance Directives
The Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Customs Command has announced stricter cargo clearance procedures, prohibiting vehicle chassis number alterations and cross-releasing of cargo.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday, October 16, 2026, between the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML Chapter, and the Area Comptroller, Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko, the following resolutions were adopted:
Key Directives
– Documentation Consistency: All documents submitted for cargo clearance must carry the same agency name from the Vehicle Registration (VREG) stage through to final delivery.
– Chassis Numbers: Alteration of chassis numbers is strictly prohibited. Accuracy and consistency must be maintained across documentation, assessment, examination, and clearance.
– Cargo Release: Cross-releasing of cargo is barred. Agents must confirm the shade or location of consignments before assessment. If discrepancies arise, reassignment should be sought at the PA’s Office at no cost.
The Command warned that violations could lead to operational delays, additional costs, and sanctions.
ANLCA PTML Chapter urged members, importers, and port users to verify documentation thoroughly before submission, follow reassignment procedures rather than attempting cross-release, and comply fully with Customs directives to promote transparency, discipline, and efficiency in cargo clearance.
