KEBBI CUSTOMS PARTNERS WITH NIGERIEN CUSTOMS TO BOOST TRADE, SUPPORT BORDER COMMUNITIES

On Thursday, 27 August 2026, the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, hosted a delegation from Nigerien Customs (Douanes du Niger) at its Headquarters to address emerging trade issues along the Kamba–Tungan Gyado border corridor. The meeting focused on facilitating legitimate trade, enhancing revenue generation, and improving the welfare of communities on both sides of the border.

According to a statement by ASC Mustapha Mubarak, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Command, the engagement was attended by Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, Customs Area Controller (CAC), Kebbi Area Command; Comptroller Abdoulaye Vincent of Douanes du Dosso, Niger Republic; Sarkin Shikon Kamba Mamuda Zarumai, Chairman of Dendi Ganda; Abubakar Inusa, Secretary-General of SNAT Gaya; and other stakeholders.

Comptroller Vincent commended the CAC for hosting the delegation and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Nigerian and Nigerien Customs, particularly through the Kamba corridor. He highlighted that insecurity along the Burkina Faso and Togo routes, coupled with the diplomatic situation with Benin Republic, had disrupted trade flows. He therefore urged for increased legitimate exports through Kamba to ease economic hardship and boost revenue.

In his remarks, Comptroller Ibrahim reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Nigerien Customs. He pledged to sensitise stakeholders on Customs procedures and encourage greater use of the Kamba corridor, stressing that enhanced trade would generate revenue, create jobs, and improve livelihoods. He also announced plans to visit the Nigerien Customs Command in Dosso to further strengthen bilateral ties.

The meeting concluded with appreciation from Sarkin Shikon Kamba, who lauded the CAC for fostering an enabling environment for legitimate business. He praised the Command’s concern for the welfare of border communities and offered prayers for the success of the collaboration.
