NIMASA DG Restates Commitment to Efficient, Transparent, Globally Competitive Maritime Administration

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a maritime administration that is efficient, transparent, and globally competitive in line with contemporary realities.

Dr. Mobereola made this pledge while receiving the leadership of the Alumni Association of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (AMANO), led by its President, Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Lagos.

The Director General stated the vision of NIMASA to include:
– Strengthening Nigeria’s maritime industry through sustained reforms and strategic stakeholder collaboration.
– Pursuing regulatory oversight reforms that promote innovation and expand opportunities for Nigerian seafarers.
– Aligning with the policy objectives of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

“Our vision is to build a maritime administration that is efficient, transparent and globally competitive,” Dr. Mobereola stated.

Mr. Maiguwa commended NIMASA for deploying an electronic platform for issuing Seafarers’ Certificates, describing it as a milestone that has enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accessibility. He also praised the Agency’s strategic partnerships and MoUs, which have expanded training, certification, and employment opportunities for Nigerian seafarers.

AMANO identified priority areas for deeper collaboration:
– Expansion of the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP).
– Greater stakeholder participation in maritime policy formulation.
– Effective implementation of the STCW Convention.
– Enhanced protection of seafarers against abandonment.
– Establishment of a sustainable pension framework.
– Improved welfare initiatives for Nigerian seafarers.

The session provided a platform for exchanging views on seafarer development, international maritime instruments, and stakeholder participation in policy formulation—all aimed at advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry.
