Young Talents Shine at Annual Mathematics Competition
Nigeria’s brightest young minds have once again distinguished themselves at the 2026 National Annual Mathematics Competition, as winners were unveiled in a ceremony that underscored the organisers’ renewed commitment to expand the initiative nationwide next year.

Chief Osita Chukwu, CEO of Cargo Desk Petroleum and Gas Ltd and sole sponsor of the mathematics category, explained that the competition was conceived to revive Nigeria’s culture of excellence in mathematics by identifying gifted pupils and students early. He noted that the initiative draws inspiration from the legacy of the late Prof. Chike Obi, Nigeria’s first professor of mathematics, stressing the need to deliberately invest in nurturing another globally acclaimed scholar.
“The world knew Nigeria through Prof. Chike Obi. We want to build another mathematics star who can represent Nigeria internationally. That is why we are committed to sustaining this competition and expanding it beyond Lagos,” Chukwu said.
